This week’s Sideline Spirit features the Savannah cheerleading team ahead of Friday’s game of the week.

Multitasking with a little girl’s cheer clinic, they took some time to show some of their skills and leadership as they coached the little ones.

“It really does show not just how much to ourselves we mean, but how much to the community we do,” said senior, Isabella Arnold.

As they taught multiple cheers for the littles to perform at Fridays’ game, the team was determined to bring all the energy even after 9 days of intense practice ahead of the Missouri Cheerleaders Coaching Association regional competition over the weekend.

“Most of the time the kids come up to you outside of school and they recognize you, they look up to you and you know, you’re really like a leader in your community,” said senior Madison Kendall.

“They want to be cheerleaders and knowing that I can teach them, like all of us can teach them that they can grow to be one just makes me feel really proud,” said senior Jaiden Myers.

After placing second at the regional competition the team will advance to the Missouri State competition. As head coach, Sarah Arnold showcased the new plaque, young cheerleaders in the crowd expressed how much the clinic meant to them.

“The reason why I’m excited for Friday’s game is so that I can cheer on the savages. And my favorite reason why I like cheering is because I get to do something fun,” said Presley, a young participant in the clinic.

Coach Arnold is proud of this year’s team and their determination and work ethic as many come from extensive cheer backgrounds and she will continue to support them as they advance to state.

“Just seeing how excited the little ones get to learn the cheers and to cheer along with us when we’re down on the sidelines is great. And the timing, that after all the hard work, we were able to come to this and kind of have fun with so many members of the community was rewarding,” Arnold said.
