Savannah City Council places officer on paid leave

Lt. Daniel Zeigler, the Savannah police officer in charge of K-9 officer Horus, who died last month, has been put on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete, according to a press release from the city of Savannah.
The city council made the decision after going into a closed session during its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
This comes after the community held a candlelight vigil on Sunday honoring Horus.
Savannah Police Chief David Vincent initially confirmed Horus’ death in a release last week.
“The Savannah Police Department, and the entire community, suffered a tremendous loss. K9 Horus passed away after completing an over night shift on patrol in Savannah,” Vincent said in a statement.
Andrew County Prosecutor Monica Morrey said on Friday that the Missouri Attorney General’s office will serve as special prosecutor in the death of Savannah K-9 officer Horus.
Police officials declined to offer any other comments on the circumstances of Horus’ death.
