St. Joseph offers plenty of ways to celebrate with family this Father’s Day

St. Joseph families will have a chance to come together this weekend to celebrate fathers and father figures in their lives.
Golf is a popular sport among dads, which means fathers and their families might be hitting the links this weekend. Jeremy Weiss, Fairview Golf Course manager, talked about a special opportunity to play on a day like Father’s Day.
“Father and son, play your grandfather, grandson, you can have multiple generations, come out and participate in the, in the same sport,” Weiss said. “Which is pretty rare for, for any other for any sport.”
If the family prefers baseball, the Mustangs will complete a three-game homestand on Saturday. The team will be on the road on Sunday.
Ky Turner, owner of the Mustang, said he believes being around family at the ball park is an amazing experience.
“I don’t think, there’s really a better gift than just hanging out with your kids or grandparents. That’s kind of like, speaks to the Mustangs experience is just spending time together,” Turner said. “I think that’s what’s most important on Father’s Day is spending time with your family and loved ones.”
The connection between baseball and dads resonates with a lot of people as well.
“You can’t play it by yourself and a lot of us have special memories, you know, growing up, playing catch with our dads or our moms or grandparents,” Turner said. “It’s a romantic day for a lot of different reasons. And hopefully we continue those memories at a Mustangs game.”
With the summer weather here, some families may not want to spend Father’s Day outside. But the day can be spent at the movies, in restaurants or even at the museums.
One St. Joseph resident has plans outside of the city.
“I’m going to Lincoln to see my youngest daughter, who’s getting ready to have, her second baby. It could happen this weekend, even,” Scott Tucker said. “My oldest daughter is coming up from Kansas City, going to pick me up, and we’re going to spend the three of us together in Lincoln together.”
Tucker had a simple answer for why Father’s Day is important.
“Family, spending time with your family,” Tucker said. “Being thankful and being happy and blessed that everything’s as good as it is.”
