Demolition is well underway on the former America’s Best Value Inn hotel at the corner of Interstate 29 and Frederick Avenue, laying the groundwork for the addition of St. Joseph’s first QuikTrip.

CDS Demolition, based out of Louisville, Kentucky, is expected to finish tearing down the building around the first week of June, depending on weather.

St. Joseph Planning and Community Development Director Clint Thompson said the city is set to approve QuikTrip’s building permit this week.

QuikTrip officials are hopeful to have the new 5,300-square-foot convenience store under construction this summer and up and running by early 2025.

The closest QuikTrip is located 29 miles away in Platte City.

Along with St. Joseph, the rapidly growing chain based out of Oklahoma added its first locations in Colorado and Mississippi in 2023 and has plans to enter Chicago with at least three stores in the metropolitan area.

QuikTrip now has nearly 1,000 stores across 17 states.
