This Saturday marks the third annual Jeep ride fundraiser in honor of a pregnant St. Joseph woman who was killed in a crash involving a drunken driver two years ago.

Savannah Domann was 26 when she and her unborn child died after their vehicle was struck in a drunken driving crash in January of 2022.

In honor of Savannah’s birthday month, her family and friends hope to keep her memory alive by hosting the jeep ride at 1 p.m. Saturday at 1616 S. Belt Highway near the site of the crash.

Her sister said the event highlights her love for Jeeps and how she aimed to make others happy.

“Savannah was driving her Jeep when she got into the crash that day,” said Morgan Domann, her sister. “She had a huge heart and a big impact on our community. She worked at Applebee’s, so she had a lot of regulars in there and she was a volleyball coach, too, so I feel like it’s important that we find ways to keep her name and memory alive by celebrating her.”

Savannah was a coach at Mid-Buchanan before she passed. Each year, the money raised from the ride goes toward the Savannah Domann Memorial Volleyball Scholarship, which awards at least two area seniors scholarships to continue playing volleyball in college.

The Domann family hopes to see community support this Saturday and wants the public to remember how drinking and driving can change the lives of others forever, as it did theirs.

“I don’t think people understand how dangerous drunk driving can be,” Morgan Domann said. “Sometimes people think they have a hold on how much alcohol they’re consuming, and they don’t and decide to get behind the wheel. Not only did they put Savannah’s life at risk but also her unborn daughter, who never got to experience life. If you’re going to go out and drink, just have a plan because this will be something that is hard for us to deal with forever.”

The entry cost for each car is $20. Whether you drive a Jeep or another vehicle, everyone is encouraged to show their support at the ride.
