Precautionary boil advisory issued in St. Joseph
By NewsPress Now
Missouri American Water announced Tuesday a precautionary boil water advisory for many St. Joseph customers after a contractor hit a water main.
The advisory affects roughly 9,200 customers and will be in effect for up to 48 hours after repairs are finished. Residents in the affected area may see cloudy water, low water pressure or no water until the main break is repaired.
“This is strictly a precautionary measure due to a loss of system pressure caused by the break,” according to a release from Christie Barnhart with Missouri American Water.
Residents should bring water to a rolling boil for 3-5 minutes before consumption.
The boil advisory is impacting several St. Joseph School District facilities, including:
- Hosea Elementary
- Carden Park Elementary
- Keatley Center
- Bode Middle School
- Truman Middle School
- Mark Twain Early Learning Center
- SJSD Warehouse
- SJSD Operations Building
- SJSD Grounds Building
Bottled water will be available for students at the affected schools; water fountain use is discouraged. Hand-washing and flushing toilets is safe.
