Snow Creek offering variety of activities for all skill levels

While it might be feeling like spring already, winter lovers can visit Snow Creek ski resort in Weston, Missouri, to enjoy some snowy conditions.
Snow Creek ski resort opened its doors to the public in late January, offering a wide range of activities for families and friends who enjoy hitting the slopes.
“This season we’re actually offering glow tubing, which is sponsored by Mountain Dew, one of our strategic partners for the season,” said Timothy Lowe, spokesperson at Snow Creek. “As offered on a normal basis, we also have skiing and riding, along with specific college nights targeted towards college students with discount rates. There’s something to do for all age groups.”
Snow Creek has many family-friendly events coming up, from the Campfire Cafe to scavenger hunts, glow nights and college ID nights. There’s something for people of all skill levels to participate in.
“Anyone can tell you, this place is beginner-friendly and we have amazing ski school instructors here,” Lowe said. “There’s a safe beginner hill and we like to call ourselves the ‘gateway’ to the West since we have resorts in Colorado. Most like to start out learning to ski here and then travel to Colorado and ski out of the resorts there.”
Others who might want to visit the resort this year may already be comfortable on the slopes and are looking for a challenge. If so, the resort will be hosting its biggest event yet, the 2024 KC Open Combined Race, on Saturday, Feb. 10, with prizes for winners in each division of adult males, adult females, youth males and youth females.
“We want everyone from every area to come out,” Lowe said. “We see a lot of Atchison, St. Joe and Kansas City folks but we also get families that come from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Anyone that wants to come and have a good time is welcome, and as a bonus, the event is for a good cause. The proceeds will benefit Midwest Adaptive Sports Special Olympics Alpine Skiing Scholarship Fund.”
Lowe said while temperatures have warmed up from the beginning of the month, the resort was able to benefit from last month’s snow and will have no issue mixing it with the artificial snow in the weeks to come.
“The snow we got in January was a good head start for us because we were able to make a ton of snow here at the resort,” Lowe said. “We never have much of a problem with making snow, but with the amount we saw last month we were able to create more piles and we have plenty more snowmaking windows coming up in the future, so things are looking good here at the resort.”
No experience or special equipment is needed to participate in the 9th annual Tubing 101 event at Snow Creek on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.
