A local state senator is rising in the ranks within Missouri’s senate leadership in advance of the next legislative session.
Members of the Senate Majority Caucus elected Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer, R-Parkville, as the next majority floor leader on Thursday, the second highest ranking position within Missouri Senate leadership.
“I am excited for the opportunity to help lead a united Republican caucus and serve and grateful to my Senate colleagues for their vote of confidence,” Luetkemeyer said. “I look forward to helping lead the Senate with my friend Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin, whose election as Senate president pro tem is historic and inspiring. Together we are committed to a new chapter for the Missouri Senate, focused on passing meaningful policy to help make Missouri the safest and most prosperous state to live and raise a family.”
Luetkemeyer will be responsible for setting the schedule of bills up for consideration by the full body, the time allotted for floor debate on legislation and session meeting times and dates for the upcoming 103rd General Assembly, which convenes on Wednesday, Jan. 8, for the start of the 2025 legislative session.
A native of Farmington, Missouri, Luetkemeyer is the state senator for the 34th Senatorial District, representing Buchanan and Platte counties. Luetkemeyer was first elected to the Missouri Senate on Nov. 6, 2018, and re-elected to a second term on Nov. 8, 2022.
