Missouri driver’s license offices will be closed for several days next month to implement driver’s license testing process changes in an effort to streamline and modernize the system.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Revenue has secured a new modernized system for driver licensing, and driver examination stations throughout the state will close at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, and will remain closed until Tuesday, Nov. 12, for preparation.

Sgt. Shane Hux with the Missouri State Highway Patrol explained that the new testing system is built into the Department of Revenue’s modernized system to help provide streamlined and efficient government service.

“It’s going to be a great process for the motoring public and offer better services as well,” Hux said. “It will be a learning curve to it, so we just ask everybody to be patient with the driver’s examiners when they’re down at the office.”

These changes will include offering the Class F written test in 20 different languages, including sign language, for which there will be a video version of the test.

“Currently, the driver’s test is only offered in 13 different languages,” Hux said. “That is now going up to 20 languages and some benefits will be added for those that are deaf and hard of hearing as the state currently pays for an interpreter for individuals who need those services.”

There are some areas that currently have a scheduling app for Class F skills testing, which will be discontinued leading up to the changeover. The new scheduling system app will become available as the system rolls out after Nov. 12, 2024.

After the changes are implemented, driver license records, issuance, withdrawal and more will be available as e-services.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the new system is also expected to help deter driver’s license fraud.

Additional information on the modernized testing system can be found on the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s website.
