Local crews put the finishing touches on an all-new monument this Tuesday morning which is meant to welcome visitors to St. Joseph’s South Side.

Drivers and pedestrians traveling through the intersection located at King Hill and Lake avenues will be greeted with a double-sided monument created and installed by Roderick Sign Co. of St. Joseph.

The $15,250 sign stands at 4½ feet tall and approximately 11½ feet long, with text reading “Welcome to South St. Joseph” on one side while the other side says, “Thank you for visiting South St. Joseph.”

Funding for the structure comes as part of an American Rescue Plan Act-funded small business exterior improvement program.

The sign features textured siding and a stone finish on the base, similar to a welcome sign located at the intersection of Frederick Avenue and North Ninth Street in Downtown St. Joseph.

It didn’t take long after the sign was placed for drivers to start honking in support of the new addition.
