Students in kindergarten through 12th grade can to help fight littering in Missouri through a trash can decorating contest.

The 2025 “Yes You CAN Make Missouri Litter-Free” contest is part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s annual “No MOre Trash!” statewide litter campaign, which is held in April.

Students can decorate a large trash can with the “No MOre Trash!” logo and a litter prevention message using a various materials. Schools or home school programs, may submit one trash can entry in each competition category: kindergarten through second grade and grades 3 through 5, 6 through 8 and 9 through 12.

Entries will be judged on creativity, adherence to the contest rules and use of the theme and logo.

First-place winners in each category receive $200 for their sponsoring schools. All first-place winners are then eligible for a grand prize of $600 and a trophy for the school.

There is no entry fee. Each submission must have an entry form with up to three photos and a release form completed by March 14. Rules, entry and release forms, logos, past winners and educational information can be found at modot.org/trash-can-contest.
