Downtown Lincoln bus transfer station moving to temporary location Jan. 16

StarTran’s temporary bus transfer station will relocate from 11th and N streets to 11th and L streets on Jan. 16.
StarTran announced the transition Monday that it says is meant to enhance rider safety, provide more amenities and shift operations away from the ongoing redevelopment and construction at the Gold’s Building.
The new temporary bus transfer station is scheduled to operate for roughly three years while the city builds a new $32 million multi-modal transportation center on the block bordered by Ninth, 10th, G and H streets.
The new temporary transfer station, which will be located in the former Settell’s Printing building, will have a covered waiting area, bathrooms, additional lighting and seating and will be monitored by security staff.
“By improving amenities and preserving parking for nearby businesses along 11th Street, we are able to balance rider and community needs,” Carla Cosier, assistant director of transit for Lincoln Transportation and Utilities, said in a news release.
StarTran said an impact study it did indicated that up to 8% of bus riders could experience delays of four minutes or less due to the relocation. It said it will notify riders of that possibility through on-vehicle communication, flyers, electronic boards, media and updated route information on the City of Lincoln website and RideLNK app.
The downtown transfer station has been at 11th and N streets for decades, but it lacks amenities and has been a magnet for trash and loitering.
