Ringing in the new year in Columbus

With Christmas in the rearview mirror, many are looking forward to celebrating the new year with family friendly activities and parties. Thanks to local businesses and organizations, Columbus residents have a plethora to choose from.
First, the Columbus Area Children’s Museum has a “Noon Year’s Eve” celebration at the museum, 2500 14th St., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Rather than staying up to midnight, participants will wait for clock to strike the other 12 o’clock.
The family friendly event will showcase new year’s traditions from around the world, like wearing white, a Brazilian custom. Tickets are $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Attendees must preregister at 3common.com/cacm-nye.
The Oak Room of Columbus, 1270 27th Ave., is hosting a $38 prime rib and seafood buffet dinner starting at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Tickets can be purchased online at bit.ly/4fA7dka or reservations can be made over the phone, 402-710-2044.
The Eagles Club, 3505 12th St., will be ringing in the new year with champagne, steak, shrimp and entertainment by Jim Davis and Joe Cockson starting at 6 p.m. Reservations are requested for those planning to attend. The Eagles will also host a family karaoke night Dec. 29 starting at 3 p.m.
Joseph Hall, Nebraska’s own Elvis impersonator, returns to Columbus at the Quality Inn, 265 33rd Ave., for a special New Years Eve show starting at 7 p.m. with tickets available at bit.ly/3PbU1Y3.
Oborny Husker Bar, 2313 11th St., is hosting a special New Year’s beer pong competition starting at 7 p.m.
At 10 p.m., Shenanigans Bar, 3808 23rd St. is hosting a “New Year, New Laughs” comedy show by Brainfog Comedy. Stand-up comics Zach Peterson, Noe Ramirez, Erin Clough and Richard Belgrave will perform. The show is free to attend.
Harrah’s Columbus will have an all-day dinner option of a $35.99 prime rib dinner or an 18.99 fried shrimp dinner.
And the Humphrey volunteer fire department’s New Year’s Fireman’s Ball will be held on Dec. 31 at the Humphrey Community Center, 608 County Rd., but the window for reserving tickets has closed. Proceeds will go to funding equipment costs for the department.
