Troopers to monitor state roadways for New Year’s holiday

By Nicole Scott

The Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers will be patrolling in force during the next few days to keep roads safe.

The patrol’s New Year’s holiday counting period begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and will run until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

During last year’s New Year’s holiday counting period, troopers worked nine fatality crashes, 293 injuries, and 821 accidents statewide.

For this year’s holiday, troopers ask drivers to designate a sober driver or use a ride-share service rather than driving under the influence.

Troopers are also looking out for individuals breaking state traffic laws such as not wearing a seat belt, using a cell phone while driving, not paying attention at all times, not using turn signals, and driving above the posted speed limits.

Those needing help can call the patrol’s emergency assistance number at 800-525-5555 or dial *55 on a cell phone.
