Sedgwick County non-emergency line will be in use for expected influx of New Year’s calls

By Michael Stavola – The Wichita Eagle (TNS)

Dec. 31—Sedgwick County Emergency Communications will open its non-emergency line from New Year’s Eve to early New Year’s Day to handle an expected influx of calls as people celebrate with loud parties and even fireworks, which aren’t allowed in Wichita for the holiday.

For emergencies, people should still call 911.

The non-emergency line, 316-290-1011, will be open from 9 p.m. on Tuesday to 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The non-emergency line was established to prevent an influx of nuisance calls that can block emergency calls from reaching a call taker,” according to a Sedgwick County news release. “The non-emergency line is activated during times of historically high call volumes and as otherwise needed. If someone calls 9-1-1 with a non-emergency, they will be transferred to the non-emergency line.”
