Dec. 30—One man was killed and another seriously injured in an accident just after midnight Sunday in the Delano neighborhood.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Chekiel Wright from Wichita, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said in an email Monday.
Wichita police responded to a collision call at 12:21 a.m. in the 200 block of North Charles. They found a sedan that had crashed into a tree, a fence and then caught fire after the engine separated from the chassis, Rebolledo said.
Both Chekiel and the driver, a 32-year-old man, were taken to a hospital, where the Chekiel died from his injuries. The driver was treated for serious injuries, Rebolledo said.
“A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol and drugs are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash,” Rebolledo said.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call detectives at 316-350-3685 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
