Riley County unemployment rate drops 0.3% in November

Dec. 26—The percentage of people without jobs in Riley County dipped slightly last month.

The Kansas Department of Labor a 3.1% unemployment rate in Riley County in November, down from 3.4% in October.

That number matches the 3.1% jobless rate seen in September, which was a 0.7% decrease from August.

In Pottawatomie County, the November unemployment rate was 2.7%. It was 3% in Wabaunsee County, 5% in Geary County, 3.1% in Clay County, 2.6% in Washington County and 2.9% in Marshall County.

Statewide, the unemployment rate grew from 3.4% in October to 3.5% in November. In November 2023, Kansas’ jobless rate was 2.6%.

In Kansas, there were 7,100 new private sector jobs and 800 new government jobs.

“Total nonfarm job estimates for Kansas rebounded in November following a temporary drop last month,” said labor economist Emilie Doerksen in a written release. “The fluctuations were partially due to the impacts of strike activity in October. Over the last three months, Kansas has averaged 2,100 jobs added per month.”

Since November 2023 Kansas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 19,100 thanks to the addition of 14,100 private sector jobs and 5,000 government jobs.
