WATERLOO — Police have charged a man who was found with large amounts of methamphetamine and cash at a Waterloo hotel in 2023.

Maurice Deshun Malone, 46, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for possession of meth with intent to deliver, violation of the drug tax stamp act and felon in possession of a firearm.

He was detained in Cedar Rapids as part of a domestic argument Dec. 22 and allegedly gave a false name, according to court records. Cedar Rapids police determined he was wanted out of Black Hawk County for the drug warrant.

According to court records, officers with the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force searched Malone’s room at the EconoLodge on West Fifth Street on Feb. 14, 2023, and found a loaded 9 mm Taurus G3C handgun, more than 600 grams of meth and $15,000 in cash.

Bond was set at $30,000.
