CEDAR FALLS — A Hampton man has been found guilty of placing immigrant hunting flyers at the Cedar Falls Library.
A magistrate found Daniel Alan Embree, 38, guilty of misdemeanor third-degree harassment after he missed a Dec. 19 pretrial conference, apparently because he had a knee infection.
The court exercised a clause in Embree’s September arraignment paperwork that allowed for a judgment in the event he failed to show up for court.

Embree was fined $300 plus a $45 surcharge and $60 in court costs.
Following the sentencing order, Embree requested a new court date.
“I had a knee infection, so I missed court and would like to reschedule. My knee swelled up all week,” Embree wrote in his request, which included a doctor’s note.
The court hasn’t responded to the request as of Friday.
racist flyers
Daniel Alan Embree was charged with leaving racist flyers at the Cedar Falls Public Library.
Authorities allege Embree placed flyers designed to look like hunting licenses stating “USA ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT HUNTING PERMIT, no bag limit, no tagging required” and “Trump 2024” on shelves and in a book written in Spanish at the Cedar Falls Library.
Library staff found the flyers in August.
Embree was also charged with posting the flyers at eight Hispanic-owned businesses, homes and the nonprofit La Luz Cultural Center in Hampton in August. He pleaded to trespassing as a hate crime and misdemeanor criminal mischief, and sentencing is set for January in Franklin County District Court.
