Keene Christmas parade winners announced
By Clinton Herald, Iowa (TNS)
The 28th annual Keene Christmas Light Parade on Dec. 8 in Keene included 60 entries, a record for the event that attracted about 4,000 spectators along Old Betsy Road and Hillcrest. The parade was followed by a fireworks show.
The Golubinski family of Cleburne won the Best Overall trophy for their “Keep Christ in Christmas” float.
Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South claimed the Most Unique Entry, while Best Lighted Vehicle went to Neola and Alex Payne of Keene.
The parade and fireworks are presented by the Keene Economic Development Corporation (Type A board), Keene Business Development Corporation (Type B board), Oliver Technologies, and Pinnacle Bank with assistance from many community partners, including Texas Health Huguley Hospital, Texas Adventist Conference, KTH Transportation, Southwestern Adventist University, Cleburne Ford, United Cooperative Services, Hopps Automotive, Crest Water, Gillin Realty, Keene Pharmacy, Town Hall Estates, Bob’s Rural Waste Management and the Edward Jones Office of David Sykes.
The annual Keene Chamber of Commerce’s Best Decorated Contest, which recognizes a residential yard and a commercial business that is “best decorated” — inside and outside — for the holidays is open until Friday.
One award will be presented to a residence for the best decorated yard or house. Two awards will be presented to businesses: One for the best outdoor decorations and another for the best indoor decorations. All nominations must be within the Keene city limits.
Residents can nominate their favorite by calling the Keene chamber office at 817-556-2995 through noon Friday. Leave a message.
A committee of judges will visit each nominated home and business to make the final decision.
Owners of the winning residential yard (or house) and business exterior and interior will receive sign recognition placed at their address. They will also be guests of the chamber at its luncheon on Jan. 23, receive a prize and have their photo posted on the Keene chamber website.
Last year, the Fourth Street home of Nikki and Justin Hopps won Best Decorated Residence. The Best Decorated Business Exterior was the Keene Fire-Rescue Department, and the best Decorated Business Interior was awarded to Old Betsy Dental. The Best Decorated Contest started in 1998.
