SIOUX CITY — Downtown Partners has installed new interior skywalk lights in Sioux City’s downtown.
The colorful RGB LED lighting addition was installed inside the skywalk bridge above Nebraska Street between Third and Fourth streets. The test area began glowing pink on Friday.
The comprehensive lighting plan began in 2019 with the installation of festoon lights over the corners of Fourth and Court Streets and Fourth and Pearl streets. Then, Downtown Partners installed colored LED lights underneath the skywalk bridges along Fourth Street.
The next phase was a partnership with the city of Sioux City to replace 71 globe lights along the Fourth Street pedestrian walkway, which enhanced the visibility along the sidewalks. And just recently, with the help of a Missouri River Historical Development grant, new lights were installed in the alleyway between Pierce, Nebraska, Fourth and Fifth streets to illuminate the alley art and increase safety.

This most recent lighting installation inside of the skywalks aims to help continue the efforts to create a more vibrant atmosphere, according to Ragen Cote, executive director for Downtown Partners.
“This is the type of project that makes an impression on the feel and experience of a space. The Nebraska Street bridge was selected as a test area to see if it impacts the view from the interstate and how it affects the feeling inside the walkway. We hope people will provide us with feedback to help determine if we do more of them,” Cote said in a statement.
The RGB lights offer the ability to customize the lighting to nearly any color, providing a versatile and visually engaging enhancement to the downtown skyline, according to Cote. Downtown Partners invites the community to experience the new lighting in person and to watch for future updates as lighting projects continue.
