SIOUX CITY — A Denver woman was arrested early Christmas Day on felony drug charges, after allegedly sideswiping a Sioux City Police patrol vehicle and striking a fire hydrant.
Kayla J. Dreesen, 30, is charged with controlled substance violation and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, both class D felonies, as well as possession of a controlled substance — first offense and operating while under the influence — first offense, both serious misdemeanors. She is also facing the following traffic violations: failure to maintain control and striking fixtures upon a highway.
At 1:49 a.m. Wednesday, Dreesen was operating a gray 2025 Nissan Altima near Garretson Avenue and Sioux Trail, when she sideswiped a Sioux City Police patrol vehicle and drove away. She also struck a fire hydrant near Laurel Avenue and Sioux Trail, according to a criminal complaint filed in Woodbury County District Court.
Dreesen was found a few minutes later at Sioux Trail and Garretson Avenue driving a vehicle with “damage consistent” with the two accidents, the complaint stated. She had slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and impaired motor skills, according to the complaint. She admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.206 based on a preliminary breath test.
“Located on the drivers seat was a clear baggie with a white powdery substance identified as cocaine weighing .34 grams,” the complaint stated. “Located inside the center consul was 2 zip lock bags containing THC cartridges, 24 in one bag and 25 in another bag.”
