By Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Iowa (TNS)

WATERLOO — Waterloo Community Schools has named Charletta Sudduth director of equity, inclusion and belonging effective July 1.

She will succeed Gina Weekley, who is relocating out of state with her family. Weekley will hold the position through June.

Sudduth currently serves as the district’s pre-K administrator. That role will be filled by Lowell Elementary Principal Carrie Heinzerling.

“It has been a privilege to lead and support early learning as the pre-K administrator for Waterloo Schools,” Sudduth said in a news release. “I am both humbled and excited to step into the role of director of equity, inclusion, and belonging, where I look forward to advancing initiatives that celebrate diversity, foster belonging, and ensure inclusiveness for all members of our district community.”

She first joined the district in 2006 as the Parents as Teachers coordinator before moving into the role of early childhood consultant.

Prior to working at the district, she served as a mental health specialist for Head Start and as a social worker for the Iowa Department of Health in Human Services.

She has multiple degrees and certificates from the University of Northern Iowa including a bachelor’s degree in secondary teaching, a master’s of social work degree, a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, and principal and superintendent certificates.
