A Monday recount for the Buchanan County Western Commissioner race shows Democratic incumbent, Ron Hook retaining his position.

Hook ended with a final vote count of 7,869, a 25 count lead ahead of his Republican opponent, Everett Goddard Jr.

During the count, ballots were run through the machine the same way they were on Election Day.

Both candidates were invited to observe the recount and media was not allowed in the recount room.

Buchanan County Clerk, Mary Baack-Garvey had two bi-partisan teams counting the votes.

One team was from DeKalb county and the other was from Buchanan county.
