In a time of A.I. deep-fakes, election security concerns and instant access to both information and misinformation, we at News-Press Now are pledging our commitment to integrity in all of our election coverage.
Recognizing that, according to national surveys, Americans have become more wary of election news coverage, we pledge the following:
1. We will be transparent in our coverage and in the sources we cite. In our TV and digital sources, we will clearly attribute sources of all our data and documentation. This includes the polls we cite, whether local or national.
2. We will go beyond “sound bytes” in our coverage of candidates. This means we will post the full, unedited video versions of candidate interviews, and we will also have a full transcript available on our website and on our news app.
3. We will treat all candidates fairly. We will ask the same or similar questions to each candidate, so that viewers can draw a fair comparison of their answers and perspectives. We will also allow equal time for responses.
4. We will vet all experts. If we interview a non-partisan political expert, we will vet them carefully and will be clear about the reasons why they were chosen as experts in a particular area (e.g., credentials, experience, perspetive, etc.).
5. We will make candidate speeches available to viewers. When we stream or air a candidate’s speech, we will request a hard copy and, when provided, post it with the archived video of the speech.
News-Press Now Media Group will also publish an online Voter’s Guide, so that you may do your own research on candidates and issues. This resource will provide information on voter registration, candidate and issue research and sample ballots. It will be powered by BallotReady.com.
Our overall commitment is to avoid all manner of bias to the best of our ability, and our managers, editors, producers, reporters and on-air personnel will work together in an accountable way to provide honest and unbiased coverage of the candidates and issues that affect you. This extends to fact-checking of statements by candidates and about election issues, complete with full citation of our sources.
