Etiquette course teaching empowerment to younger generations

St. Joseph residents will soon have a new way to refine their sewing skills, easily strike up conversations and perfect their table etiquette thanks to MidCity Excellence teaming up with Tailored Creations by Toni.
Kimberly Warren, CEO of MidCity Excellence, and Toni Spearman, owner and operator of Tailored Creations by Toni, decided to join forces and teach the youth at MidCity Excellence proper etiquette to prepare them for future interviews, dates and business meetings.
“It’s so important that we awaken some of those social graces that we’ve lost when we were in isolation,” Warren said. “When you go out for business dinners, it’s really important to understand those social skills. So if we don’t practice that, as a teen group and as a society, it won’t come out when you’re invited to the president’s table and have to interact with people in a professional manner.”
The courses will cover basic table etiquette, but also dive into more sensitive topics such as hygiene and personal presentation.
“I believe it’s important because a lot of people, you assume that people know how to conduct themselves and a lot of people don’t,” Spearman said. “Hopefully it’ll empower and encourage (and) inspire them and give them the skills that they need to feel more confident about how they present themselves.”
Warren explained that while it’s positive the younger generations are confident in themselves and are honest with others, it’s important to empower one another in a positive and professional manner rather than offend our coworkers, bosses and personal relationships.
“I think people are still good in nature, but we could really refine how we treat each other and how we jump into saying the hard things in a very kind and diplomatic way,” Warren said.
Those who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion as well a better understanding of how to properly present themselves.
The first course will be reserved for MidCity Excellence students and will meet at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, at Tailored Creations by Toni, located at 1019 Frederick Ave.
Future courses for adults and businesses will be announced at a later date.
