The St. Joseph School District is seeking candidates for two positions on the district’s Board of Education.

The spots, which each have three-year terms, will be on the April 8 ballot.

Filing for the positions begins from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The final filing opportunity is from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Applications will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those seeking to run should come to the district’s administration building at 1415 N. 26 St. and enter through door five. Applications should be dropped off on the second floor in the board secretary/superintendent offices.

Candidates cannot file applications on weekends, after hours or when the school district offices are closed from noon on Monday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 30. Filings will not be accepted when the offices are closed due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

On Dec. 10, any candidate who applies will draw a number at random. Candidates will be listed in ascending order of that number ahead of candidates who file at a later date.

Those eligible for candidacy must be U.S. citizens, voters of the St. Joseph School District, Missouri residents for a minimum of one year before filing and at least 24 years old. They cannot be behind on any state, personal, municipal or real property taxes or have a felony, must not be a sex offender and must have filed or have a treasurer of an existing candidate committee file all required campaign disclosure reports with the Missouri Ethics Commission for all previous elections in which they were candidates.

Anyone with further questions can call 816-671-4003 or email board secretary Donna Baker at donnabaker@sjsd.k12.mo.us for more information.
