Hundreds of high school students filled the Civic Arena on Tuesday morning for the annual My Success Event hosted by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce.

The event invited students to learn more about what they can do after high school, from jobs to college to the military.

Kristi Bailey, director of communications and marketing with the Chamber, explained why they hold this event every year, specifically showcasing St. Joseph businesses.

“We do that so the students in our area know about all the great career opportunities that we have here,” Bailey said. “Because we want them to know that no matter what they do after high school, if they go directly into the workforce or if they go to college, that they have something to do here when they’re done.”

Savannah High School student Gavin Violett shared why he attended the event on Tuesday.

“Just exploring opportunities and there’s a lot of people here, you know, trying to find the best job, the best fit,” Violett said. “You know, see what’s the best for us.”

The event helped some students get a better idea of what they want to do in the future, like Savannah High School student Tristan Campbell.

“There’s a lot of military options here that really had good bonuses and requirements and stuff that I meet and I think I might go into that,” Campbell said.

The event is open to all high schoolers in the area, including those who are homeschooled, and will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m.
