St. Joseph School District officials and school board members presented a check to Second Harvest Community Food Bank on Wednesday after raising money for Hunger Action Month.

The total amount donated was $1,360, in which funds were raised with portions of ticket sales at two “Orange Out” football games in September.

Shannon Nolte, the director of nonacademic student services for the St. Joseph School District, said it is important to help those struggling with hunger in the community, focusing on students.

“Their families get impacted,” Nolte said. “And so if we can help them come to school, they have meals or when they leave school and they can have meals, we know that strengthens the relationship between the community and us. Also makes our learners better learners when their needs are being met.”
