SJSD hosts hiring fair for 2024-25 vacancies

The St. Joseph School District searched for standout candidates at its final hiring fair before the beginning of the school year.
As previously reported, the district is looking for a number of positions including paraprofessionals, campus supervisors and interventionists.
First-time attendee Alex Schaffer said the event gave applicants a chance to speak with school officials in person and figure out opportunities in St. Joseph.
“I do have my master’s in teaching from Duke. I graduated in 2022, and then I have an MBA from Missouri Western,” Schaffer said
She’s looking to get back into teaching after being the head cheer coach at Benedictine. She’s looking for a classroom teaching position but would also like to explore school psychology.
While attending Missouri Western, Schaffer fell in love with St. Joseph, which is why she wants to serve the kids of the community.
“My friends are here, too, so I appreciate that. The community, the church, definitely, and the kids,” she said.
Despite the nationwide teacher shortage, Schaffer said teaching is her passion and she’s excited to get in a classroom.
“There’s definitely a need for it. The kids deserve people to just invest in them and love them,” Schaffer said. “So that’s what I want to do.”
