The long-serving leader of a nonprofit that promotes the interests of eight government and community organizations will now work directly for just one.

Tama Wagner was named earlier this month as chief assistant for strategic initiatives, a member of the president’s cabinet at Missouri Western State University. In this role, the university said, Wagner will help develop projects that the university is working on at any given time and provide oversight to ensure they are done correctly. As an example, one major project for the university now is the Convergent Technology Alliance Center, a new manufacturing and skilled trades laboratory that will open in August.

Wagner had, through April 12, served as director of the St. Joseph Community Alliance, which represented Missouri Western, the St. Joseph School District, the City of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mosaic Life Care, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and the 139th Airlift Wing of the Missouri Air National Guard.

Wagner previously served in communications roles at Lifeline Foods, Truman Medical Center (now University Health) and Mosaic Life Care, as well as in various roles in regional journalism before that.
