ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- A protein manufacturing company is set to open its first U.S. facility in St. Joseph.

Nortian Foodtech will build the approximately 160,000-square-foot facility at 2202 Alabama St. in the Stockyards Industrial Park.

Over its five-year building period, an estimated $22 million will be invested in the project.

The company expects to have hired about 138 people by the end of the fifth year of operations.

A site consultant and company representative for Nortian Foodtech began conversations in St. Joseph with the St. Joseph Economic Development Partnership and Mayor John Josendale in July.
