Fans of Mexican food on the South Side can rejoice, as a new street taco spot is open for business on King Hill Avenue.

Los Arcos Street Tacos, located at 6944 King Hill Ave., celebrated its grand opening Wednesday after seven months of preparation. Owner Maribel Sanchez said she’s excited to bring a piece of Mexico to the south end.

“They don’t have to drive all the way to the north side to get good Mexican food,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez has worked in the restaurant industry for years. Her experience made it easier for her to start her own restaurant.

“I’ve been a manager for pretty much my whole life for restaurants. I managed fast food places and (it’s) just that it’s time to open up my own,” she said.

Though she’s nervous, she hopes the community welcomes her new business with open arms. Los Arcos is a part of Tienda La Estrella, the Mexican supermarket located off of Frederick Boulevard. The two businesses plan on partnering for future events to extend their reach in the community.

Los Arcos serves a little bit of everything under the sun. Sanchez is most proud of the pambazo, a Mexican sandwich made with ham, beans, potatoes and carrots.

“That my stepmom showed me how to make. And she’s not with me no more, but I’m very proud of that,” she said. “It’s delicious. You guys would love it. I want everybody to come and try that sandwich itself.”

Other menu favorites include the sopa loca, which is maruchan soup with nacho cheese, corn and cotija cheese. They also have enchiladas, fresh tamales daily, gorditos, street tacos and more.

Customer Nick Musser had a great experience at the restaurant.

“Food was excellent. You had a great choice for the menu. Everything that we had tasted absolutely excellent,” Musser said.

Musser and his family had three different styles of street tacos, ceviche, a tostada and tres leches. His favorite was the street taco.

“The restaurant is very, very clean coming in, very, very friendly staff. They have a very good selection of drinks and food,” he said. “One of the coworkers I came with today already wants to come back tomorrow, so we might be back tomorrow.”

Los Arcos Street Tacos will be open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
