Once fully operational
Once fully operational

Summit Truck Bodies has started constructing a new $50 million facility in Wathena, Kansas.

The expansion aims to meet rising demand for service trucks and expand production capabilities, officials with the company said. The new building will be next to the company’s current facility in Wathena and is expected to be completed in about 20 months.

Once operational, the 220,000-square-foot facility will double production output, officials said. With the new facility, Summit Truck Bodies will hire 80 additional employees across various departments.

“The new facility will positively impact the local community by increasing revenue and providing quality jobs,” said Chris Walter, Summit Truck Bodies plant manager. “We will continue our partnerships with Hillyard Technical Center and Missouri Western State University to attract and develop local talent.”

The company’s current 132,000-square-foot facility will shift focus to manufacturing lube trucks, drawer systems, cranes, body refurbishments and parts sales.
