United Fiber officials are offering an explanation and apology for outages that impacted customers for multiple days last month.

Issues started following severe storms on April 15 impacted the company’s network equipment in Savannah. United Fiber officials estimate about 10% of their 35,000 subscribers were affected at any given time by outages, reduced internet speeds and disruptions to TV services.

However, these customers did not show as disconnected or create outage alarms, complicating troubleshooting efforts, according to the company.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the recent network interruptions,” United Fiber CEO Jim Bagley said. “We understand the critical nature of connectivity in today’s world. With the continued support of our United Fiber customers, we will overcome this obstacle and continue to provide the service our customers rightfully expect and deserve.”

United Fiber General Manager Darren Farnan said the company has been able to resolve the issue and is working on a network upgrade to add more routing equipment to prevent such issues in the future and pinpoint customer exposure if they do happen.

United Fiber has been working on a major expansion in St. Joseph during the last year.
