A local cookie shop is giving Kansas City Chiefs fans the chance to enjoy the sweet taste of victory and a Super Bowl appearance through its treats.

The Chiefs’ winning ways are good for local business, and that extends to Country Cookie at 206 S. Belt Highway. Country Cookie already makes 50 to 100 dozen cookies on a typical day, but holidays and sporting events result in more foot traffic.

The shop experiences a surge in business when the Chiefs are playing, especially during a postseason run.

“It increases about 50 to 75%, especially on a weekend game, just because everybody’s planning their events or get-togethers, so we do have much more production for those days,” assistant manager Cori O’Meara said.

Sugar cookies with Chiefs-themed yellow and red sprinkles are among the most popular options.

“They do go kind of crazy over the decorated ones,” retail associate Abbie Mays said. “Usually, the Mahomes jerseys are a pretty big one.”

Mays said working during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run last year felt similar to a Christmas rush.

“Usually orders are coming through, we got calls coming through,” she said. “There’s not really time to do anything other than just kind of keep your head down and work.”

If you can find a San Francisco 49ers fan in St. Joseph, there are options for them, too. Cookies featuring 49er jerseys and helmets sat in a display case in the bakery.

“We are trying to kind of show both sides of the game, so we’ll see how many people are interested in that, but it’s pretty heavy on the Chiefs, so we’ll see,” O’Meara said while laughing.

Orders for next weekend have already started coming in. One customer placed an order for her job to celebrate another Super Bowl appearance.

“We’re all excited about them going to the Super Bowl, and we know they’ll win,” St. Joseph resident Mary James said.

The big game and an upcoming holiday will keep Country Cookie busy into February.

“We got a Super Bowl, we got Valentine’s in the same week, so it’s going to be it’s going to be wild,” O’Meara said.
