NWMSU Professor receives Governor’s Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (News-Press NOW) -- One professor from Northwest Missouri State University received the Governor's Award for Excellence from Governor Mike Kehoe in Jefferson City on April 2.

Shelly Hiatt is a professor of counseling at NWMSU's School of Health and Wellness.

Hiatt joined Northwest's faculty in 1997 and teaches courses related to psychology and school guidance and counseling.

In a news release from NWMSU, "Her nomination cited a relentless commitment to teaching excellence throughout her career and her use of best practices in curriculum development, pedagogy, delivery format and student support."

Hiatt has an Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Master of Education degree in guidance and counseling and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, both from Northwest.

Her academic interests include comprehensive school counseling programs, suicide prevention, and school crisis and disaster planning.
