Two people were detained after reports of shots fired inside the home of 609 N. 23rd St. on Sunday afternoon.

ST. JOSEPH, Mol. (News-press NOW) — Two people were detained Sunday afternoon after police responded to multiple shots fired.

A resident called the St. Joseph Police Department around noon Sunday when they believed they heard gunshots inside the home of 609 N. 23rd St. The first officer on the scene also heard gunshots inside the residence.

The SJPD set up a perimeter around the house and detained a man and a woman, both in their early 20's.

"There is confirmation that there were shots fired inside the house," Sgt. Brian McClintick with the SJPD said. "At this time, it doesn't look like anyone was hit by the gunfire. Nobody is injured that we know of."

Police believe the incident started as a domestic dispute between the two detainees.

"As far as what we're gathering, we think we have one or both parties responsible for the shooting or in custody right now. So everything's secured. We're just waiting to piece everything together."
