Missouri Western hosts annual STEM career fair

Missouri Western’s campus is shown in 2020 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Registration for the Great Plains Growers Conference is now open. The event will be held at Missouri Western.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — Missouri Western State University hosted it’s annual science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career fair on Tuesday evening.

The career fair is commonly known as “MO-Rise,” affording students and alumni the opportunity to interact network with employers in STEM based fields in both St. Joseph and Kansas City.

“It helps being able to sit down with them and have a conversation with them and kind of get to know what makes them happy and what they’re passionate about,” Hillyard corporate recruiter Leilani Dill said. “It makes placing them in the right department go a lot easier.”

Students like Frank Sweiger came to the event with the intent to talk to different businesses in attendance and create possible job opportunities for themselves down the line.

“I’m hoping I can find some recruiters to talk to,” Sweiger said. “They can help give me an idea of potential jobs I can be placed in after I graduate.”

Among students, faculty and recruiters there were roughly 50 people in attendance.
