The St. Joseph School District has entered into an agreement with the Missouri Ethics Commission regarding the use of a district email for a ballot measure.

An email was sent to staff members regarding an April 2024 bond issue, where the email was used to communicate about committee meetings.

To resolve the issue, SJSD will pay $100 as part of the consent order to be entered by the MEC.

The district also acknowledged the cost of maintaining a sjsd.k12.mo.us email address does have a financial cost attached to it.

The district has also undertaken steps to ensure compliance with requirements related to sharing information on ballot measures related to SJSD.

Although districts can provide information about ballot measures, no district resources may be used to advocate in favor of a bond or levy.

A statement sent to News-Press NOW said, "The district will continue to provide information about ballot measures to St. Joseph taxpayers as appropriate and will not use district funds for advocacy in support of such measures."
