Master gardener classes are being offered in St. Joseph and Cameron in March and April.

Spring is coming early for area residents thanks to an Extension Master Gardner course offered by the University of Missouri.

St. Joseph and Cameron residents can gain in-depth knowledge of all things gardening, including plant nutrition, propagation, disease and insect control. Extension Master Gardeners, or EMGs, are known locally for their annual plant sales, donations of produce to food banks and the annual Tomato Fest.

Sessions will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 4 to April 17. One course will take place from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the MU Extension Office located at 4125 Mitchell Ave. in St. Joseph. A second course will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 202 E Ford St. in Cameron.

Trained master gardeners must attend 36 hours of training and provide 30 hours of volunteer service to the community.
