Super Bowl season bringing business to local bakeries

Much like the Super Bowl game this Sunday, local bakeries are hoping for a sellout on desserts as fans look to celebrate this weekend.
Whipping up Chiefs-themed desserts ahead of this Sunday's Big game has become a common theme for Country Cookie and Love & Frosting Bakeshop in St. Joseph.
“We've been very beneficial over the last five years,” said Jackie Beers, store manager at Country Cookie. “They've continued to press this far so we're a little nervous about it if a Super Bowl doesn't ever happen for them.”
While Super Bowl season continues to bring success to the local bakery, it finds itself running out of treats before the season even begins.
“We actually start our spirit for the Chiefs clear back in August when training camp starts,” Beers said. “So, we always make it a big deal to have Chief-themed items because we get so many people from out of state that come in town just for the pre-season.”
The Chiefs-colored sprinkle cookies are the most popular themed item, but they offer a variety of other decorated cookies and cakes, including football-decorated cookies, cookies adorned with Travis Kelce's jersey, and even Taylor Swift-inspired cookies reading “in our champion era.”
“It’s just something cute and fun to have at all the game day celebrations,” Beers said. “Kind of a hometown pride thing.”
Business is swinging right in for love and frosting bakeshop as well.
“Every year, we kind of learn what our customers are really wanting, which is more of the custom decorated chiefs-themed items,” said Niki Longers, owner of Love & Frosting Bakeshop.
Longers says they’re expecting an influx of orders this year, so the business is staying prepared with not only Kansas City Chief sweets but also snacks for those who prefer a salty taste—their game day “snack mix.”
While businesses are staying prepared, they're expecting to sell a high number of treats on Saturday just before Super Bowl Sunday, so fans should plan to buy their treats soon.
