The Monroe County Board of Supervisors approved contributions to several local food programs during their Dec. 10, 2024 meeting.
The board approved using $10,000 of American Rescue Plan Act money to support three local programs. A resolution was passed stating that contributing up to $5,000 to the Albia Community School District Backpack Program, up to $2,500 to Monroe County Helping Hands and up to $2,500 to the Monroe County Council on Aging, Leisure Lounge Senior Center.
The board also approved a 28E agreement with the Albia School District for the Backpack Program.
The supervisors also spoke to Monroe County attorney Laura Davis about the ongoing livestock hazard along 205th Trail. A hearing by the Trustees was held on Nov. 18, 2024, and Davis had recently received a written decision from the trustees. Davis said she was in the process of assisting the trustees in recording the proper documents. No action was taken by the board.
The board also voted to decline an offer from Chariton Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. to take ownership of the electric vehicle charging station currently located on the courthouse lawn.
The board stated that they understood from CVEC representatives that the charging station had had a high cost but generated little revenue since its installation five years ago.
The board also approved a Safety Action Plan including a pledge for Safe Streets and Roads for All as presented by Monroe County Engineer Jeremiah Selby.
The board also voted to set the bid letting for fuel quotes for Secondary Roads for 2025 on Dec. 17, 2024, at 9:30 am.
