Columbia police have identified and arrested a Columbia man accused in an assault and shots-heard incident on Forum Boulevard in early November.
Marquise Dajuan Mathis, 44, was arrested Thursday on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and assault for the November incident, as well as a charge of obstructing government operations after he allegedly lied to police about his identity after being pulled over for a stop sign violation, according to court records.
A victim reportedly told police he was playing a basketball game in Forum Christian Church on Nov. 2 when Mathis became upset at words being said to him at the game and left, and the victim said he saw Mathis at his car waiting for him, according to court documents.
The victim reportedly told police he saw Mathis pull out a handgun and load it, after which Mathis allegedly told the victim he was going to kill him then hit him in the side of the head with the gun and fired it, missing the victim, according to court documents.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Mathis was located and arrested Thursday during a traffic stop, during which he allegedly admitted to lying about his name due to felony warrants for his arrest, according to court documents.
Mathis is being held in the Boone County Jail without bond, jail records show.
