Weekend college football recap

By Jacob Meikel

Missouri Western 23, Northwest Missouri State 33

The last edition of The Battle of Highway 71 once again belongs to the Bearcats. The MIAA’s most successful program in the Bearcats dominated in the sack category, tallying five sacks on the afternoon while Missouri Western tallied zero. The Griffs gave themselves a chance by scoring a touchdown with under six minutes to play and cutting the deficit to seven. With a chance to march down the field and tie the game with under four minutes, quarterback Branden Berwald threw an interception that put the Bearcats in Western territory.

Benedictine 49, Central Methodist 10

After a shootout loss to MidAmerica Nazarene a week ago, Benedictine beats the breaks off of a one-win Central Methodist team. The Ravens outdo the Eagles in nearly every category, including a discrepancy in the passing category, with Benedictine passing for 241 more yards than Central Methodist. The Ravens will finish out their regular season at William Woods next Saturday.

Kansas 45, #17 Iowa State 36

Another bye week serves the Jayhawks well. Kansas came out of its second week off of the season to put up the second most points its scored in a game this season to take down No. 17 Iowa State. Running back Devin Neal became the Jayhawks’ all-time leading rusher in the win, and tallied 116 yards and two touchdowns in the afternoon win.
