Hawley defeats Kunce in U.S. Senate race

By Charles Christian

Incumbent Republican Senator Josh Hawley has defeated Democratic opponent Lucas Kunce for the U.S. Senate in Missouri.

Early on in the race, Kunce attacked Hawley’s strong identification with Donald Trump and specifically with the U.S. Capitol riots of January 6. This, along with Kunce’s working class roots, status as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and his Yale law background, gave him considerable momentum going into Tuesday’s election.

However, Hawley’s support echoed that of former president Donald Trump and a vast majority of other Republicans in the state. According to the AP, in a statement Tuesday night, Hawley told supporters that Missourians “voted to save the United States of America” by re-electing him to the U.S. Senate. He added that he and his supporters believe in America, and that “God is not done yet with America.”

Missouri first elected Hawley in 2018 over Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill.
