By Staff Report

Many warming centers located in Johnson County are only open during their host building’s normal operating business hours, which typically does not include holidays. On the upcoming New Year’s Day, Overland Park Christian Church (7600 W. 75th Street) will serve as a warming center regardless of weather conditions that day.

This warming center will be activated in partnership with Johnson County Government and United Community Services of Johnson County.

Project 1020 (9400 Pflumm, Lenexa, in the south wing of Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church) opens at 6 p.m. for overnight sheltering and has the capability to provide transportation to their facility.

In Olathe, both public library locations also act as warming centers during cold weather.
