Archdiocese to open Jubilee Year of Hope on Sunday

Archbishop Ryan P. Jimenez invites everyone to an 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass commencing the Jubilee Year of Hope for the Archdiocese of Agaña at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica in Hagåtña.
It is the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
Guam Catholics will join faithful throughout the world in observing 2025 as the Jubilee of Hope as proclaimed by Pope Francis.
The pope officially ushered in the 2025 Jubilee of Hope, opening the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica on the evening of Dec. 24 in Rome.
He reassured the faithful during his Christmas evening Mass that the Christ Child of Bethlehem offers the world infinite hope and joy.
“During the Holy Year,” the Pope prayed, “may the light of Christian hope illumine every man and woman, as a message of God’s love addressed to all. And may the Church bear faithful witness to this message in every part of the world.”
The last opening of the Holy Door for an Ordinary Jubilee was when Pope St. John Paul II had done so in the year 2000. Pope Francis opened the Holy Door in 2015 for his 2016 Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
On Guam, Archbishop Jimenez first announced the Jubilee of Hope in a pastoral letter to the faithful last Dec. 13.
The archdiocese said “anticipating the glorious coming of our savior on Christmas, the archbishop said ‘our already joyful hearts have more reason to leap in jubilation.’”
“I invite each of you to join me in entering the doors of hope that our loving God offers to us in him and in his Church,” Jimenez said.
