The local St. Joseph Salvation Army hosted a memorial in partnership with Community Missions on Friday, Dec. 20.

Friday’s memorial was held to commemorate and celebrate unhoused people who have died within the last year.

“We hold a candlelight service,” said Salvation Army Major Ronald Key. “A number of the agencies come in and then, we just kind of recognize who they were and do a remembrance of them.”

Maj. Key said he’s taken part in the ceremony for six years and is glad The Salvation Army is able to provide a safe space for friends and family to grieve.

“I think it’s great that we’re able to do this and we have the privilege of doing it,” said Maj. Key. “We appreciate everyone who showed up.”

The memorial also featured music and a chance to display photos of loved one’s to be remembered.
