The 139th Airlift Wing and The Sound of Speed Airshow were selected as the winners of a 2024 award.

The Airlift Wing and the Airshow were named as the 2024 winners of the “Military Show Site of the Year” during the International Council of Airshows Convention’s “Open House” event on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

This past September, the Thunderbirds performed at the 2024 Sound of Speed Airshow in St. Joseph.

The Thunderbirds perform for people all around the world to display “the pride, precision and professionalism the U.S. Air Force represents,” according to the United States Airforce website. “Through air shows and flyovers, they aim to excite and inspire. In addition to showcasing the elite skills all pilots must possess, the Thunderbirds demonstrate the incredible capabilities of the Air Force’s premier multi-role fighter jet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon.”
